Montreal Alouettes 2024 Pending Free Agents

The Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes, with 22 pending free agents, look to keep their key pieces in 2024.

The 2023 season will be one to remember for the Montreal Alouettes after making an improbable run to the Grey Cup and defeating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24.

Now the team is entering the offseason with 22 players who are entering free agency that will open in February. There are some essential players who played well in the Grey Cup that the team will have to cough up money to bring them back.

Here is the full list of Alouettes players heading into free agency broken down by position and whether they are American (A), National (N), or Global (G). We also break down the top five players entering free agency for Montreal.

Top Five Alouettes Free Agents

William Stanback, Running Back

Montreal’s leading rusher during the regular season is set to be in free agency as Stanback could be a target for some teams. Stanback finished with 800 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while adding 241 receiving yards and one touchdown. He played a key role in the Grey Cup rushing for 68 yards and a touchdown in their win. With a younger backfield, Stanback could be brought back to the team for at least another season.

Shawn Lemon, Defensive Lineman

Montreal got a taste of some lemon drops bringing Lemon in with 13 games to go. He quickly became their top pass rusher. The veteran pass rusher had a team-high nine sacks in the regular season, along with two interceptions, one fumble recovery and a touchdown. Don’t be surprised if Lemon is one of the Als’ top targets in free agency.

Tyrice Beverette, Linebacker

The Alouettes’ leading tackler is entering free agency and could be one of the top defensive players available. Beverette finished as the team’s leader in tackles with 109 total tackles and added seven sacks. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if he is able to stick around, but if money plays a big factor, it could make things interesting for the 28-year-old linebacker.

Darnell Sankey, Linebacker

He only played six regular season games, but Sankey was the missing piece to the defense to get them all the way to a Grey Cup title. He recorded 31 tackles, one sack, one interception and two forced fumbles during the regular season. He was the leading tackler in the Grey Cup with eight tackles and a sack in the win. Montreal could use Sankey back with the CFL hoping to keep him in Canada this time around.

Ciante Evans, Defensive Back

As one of the team’s top defensive backs, Evans played in 11 games, recording 25 tackles and three interceptions. He is seen as a depth player who can help with the secondary, so the Als could bring him back with more playing time on the horizon.
