Ottawa Redblacks Re-Sign Veteran DB Ty Cranston

The Ottawa Redblacks re-signed defensive back Ty Cranston to a one-year deal on Tuesday.

Special teams continue to be a focus for the Ottawa Redblacks as they bring back one of their top tacklers on the unit.

The team announced Tuesday that it re-signed defensive back Ty Cranston for the 2024 season.

Cranston played in every regular season game for the Redblacks racking up 15 total tackles with 14 on special teams and an interception in 2023. He had 20 tackles in 2022.

The Redblacks brought back two key pieces to their special teams with fullback Anthony Gosselin and kicker/punter Michael Domagala with new contracts in December.

His first CFL stop came with the Montreal Alouettes when he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2017 CFL Draft. Cranston returned to school for his final season of eligibility and did not play for Montreal in 2017. From 2018 through 2021, he recorded 62 total tackles and one interception in 35 games with the Alouettes.

Cranston played 38 games for the Ottawa Gee-Gees. He finished with 133 total tackles, six tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and two blocks in his career.

Cranston, who turns 30 in June, started the 2018 season on the suspended list before moving to the practice roster. He made his CFL debut and had one special teams tackle against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sept. 30. He finished with three special teams tackles in five games in 2018.
