Arkansas Next Three-Point Test Comes with NBA Lineage
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas has struggled in the early going to defend the triple, allowing 20 shots from beyond the arc in the last two games. The task doesn't get any easier. Andrej Stojaković, son of NBA champion Peja Stojaković, is now a budding star freshman at Stanford, the Razorbacks first opponent in the upcoming Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.
The elder Stojaković was one of the first players in the NBA to shoot the transition three for the Kings in the early 2000s, making three consecutive NBA All-Star teams from 2002 to 2004 and finished his 14-year career at 40.1% from behind the arc.
Like father, like son, the three-point ability runs in the family. Andrej Stojaković, a consensus four-star recruit chose Stanford over Oregon, UCLA and Texas.
Andrej Stojaković is off to a hot start through four games at Stanford knocking down 9-of-19 from deep and comes into the matchup against the Hogs with back-to-back 18 point games and continues to grow in his first year.
"We all know he has a great deal of god-given talent and talent he's developed his craft on the offensive end," Stanford coach Jerod Haase said in a press conference after Stanford's 95-70 win over Eastern Washington. "(He's) very coachable and very excited."
Coach Eric Musselman has become increasingly frustrated at his team's inability to guard both the deep ball.
"Not getting close enough to guys," Musselman said. "Not having enough desperation. If you don't think that we've talked about defending the three, I've talked about it with you guys. It's been discussed. It's up to us to fix it. So, we've got to get back to the drawing board, and we don't have much time before we play three real quality opponents in the Bahamas."
Arkansas will take on Stanford 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in Nassau, Bahamas. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and FuboTV.
