Elite Auburn Kicker Shares Why He Will Miss The A-Day Game

Auburn football's run of kickers doesn't seem to be slowing down.

The latest in Auburn's run of impressive kickers is Alex McPherson. The Lou Groza Award semi-finalist didn't miss a kick in 2023. The impressive young kicker won't be playing in Saturday's A-Day game based on a comment he gave to local media on Saturday.

"I've had something with my hamstring so I won't be playing in the A-Day game unfortunately but my health is good," McPherson said. "I'm just going to take it easy for the Spring right now like I have been."

McPherson was 13-13 on field goal attempts last season and a perfect 40-40 on PATs. When asked what he was working on this spring, he mentioned his focus on health.

"Just staying healthy, I'd say," McPherson said. "Just staying consistent with everything."

His absence will give a great opportunity to newcomer Towns McGough who has already impressed McPherson and other members of the football program.

"He's been great," McPherson said when asked about McGough. "We knew coming in that he was going to be a good kicker. In high school, he was really good in games and camps. I don't know where he was ranked but he was top two probably. He's been reaaly good. He's really impressed us and the other guys and I'm really proud of him and how he's adjusted to the college level."

Auburn's annual A-Day game is this Saturday at Jordan Hare Stadium. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 pm CT.
