Five Reasons Auburn Beats Vanderbilt
Auburn is on the road again this week as they travel to Nashville for a matchup with Vanderbilt. The Commodores are sitting at 2-7 after suffering a blowout loss at Ole Miss last week and are expected to start backup quarterback Walter Taylor against the Tigers. Conditions seem to be right for Auburn to pick up their second road win of the season and second conference win. These five things are key for Auburn to get the win.
Composure
Auburn has had rough starts in all of their road games so far this year. The Tigers have appeared rattled and discombobulated playing in opponents stadiums and that needs to end Saturday. The offense needs to build off the success they had at home last week and take that show on the road.
Defense Travels
The Auburn defense has actually played well on the road with the exception of the second half at LSU. Between the game at Cal and the game at Texas A&M, the defense only allowed 18 points per game. Vanderbilt is probably not capable of scoring 18 against this Auburn defense, so look for the Tigers to have a good day clamping down on the Commodores.
Turnovers
Auburn has had an outstanding season creating turnovers. Leading the league at 14 turnovers on the season, look for that trend to continue against the Commodores.
Roster Depth
Auburn simply has more depth and better players than Vanderbilt. That will wear on the Commodores as the game progresses and fatigue sets in. The Tigers' game plan for Saturday will account for that and leverage it for success.
The Running Backs
Jarquez Hunter, Damari Alston, Brian Battie, and Jeremiah Cobb are capable of big plays in the run game. At least two of them will have a big day on Saturday as the Tigers will look to establish them early and shorten the game.
