Auburn quarterback helped Hugh Freeze recruit Perry Thompson
Hugh Freeze wanted Perry Thompson for a long time.
One of the first things Coach Freeze did when he got on campus was start recruiting some talented receivers in the 2024 class.
He ended up doing that as he brought in Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, Bryce Cain, and Malcolm Simmons. We haven't seen Thompson or Simmons yet as they aren't on campus, but Coleman and Cain are turning heads.
On Locked On Auburn quarterback Hank Brown told the story of how he and Coach Freeze discussed Thompson's recruitment.
Brown had this to say about how he and Coach Freeze recruited Thompson, "Before I was actually there when I was getting recruited here and took a visit in that short window, I was able to talk with Perry a while back when he was committed to Alabama. Coach Freeze told me hey, we got to get this guy let's work on him so I was able to talk to him and his family a little bit and start building that relationship. I'm really excited for him to be here, as everybody is. I'm just excited for that connection. He can be really special, as everybody knows. I don't think I need to talk much about that, so I'm very excited.
It's cool to hear the interworkings of Thompson's recruitment, as Coach Freeze was on him for a while.
Thompson, in flipping from Alabama, was one of the first splash commits of the 2024 class for Coach Freeze, so you could say this turned the tide.
During his time as the head coach at Auburn, Freeze will recruit at an elite level.
