Auburn's most important transfer portal addition on offense and defense
Who was Auburn's most important addition in the transfer portal?
Coach Hugh Freeze and the Auburn coaching staff didn't use the transfer portal as much as many would have expected, bringing in nine players.
Many figured the staff would add more than this to have a few rental players help this team while the young talent that came in via the 2024 class had time to develop.
This didn't end up being the case, as Auburn will likely toss many of these young starters out there this season and let them figure out the college game with in-game reps.
This makes sense based on Coach Freeze's plan to have 2025 be the season where Auburn looks to make the new expanded College Football Playoff. Now, seeing the Tigers 2025 schedule, this seems doable, knowing the young talent will have a year of experience under their belt, and the schedule is much easier than what is coming up this season.
Athlon Sports put out an article by Steven Lassan listing each SEC team's most important transfer portal addition on both sides of the ball. Lassan had offensive tackle Percy Lewis as the most important offensive addition, with safety Jerrin Thompson being the most critical defensive addition.
Both of these players will likely start for the Auburn Tigers this season, with Lewis taking over at tackle and Thompson more than likely starting at safety.
While Coach Freeze and his staff didn't bring in a ton of players from the portal, they did an excellent job of adding precisely what they needed, and both of these Auburn Tigers will help this team in 2024.
