Gators Firmly in the Mix for ‘Game Changer’ at RB Micahi Danzy
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- The Florida Gators are off to a hot start in the 2024 cycle, with four commits in the class.
However, one in particular has seen his recruitment skyrocket since pledging himself to the Gators. That prospect is blue-chip RB Chauncey Bowens. He’s received offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Ohio State among several others, garnering questions surrounding the strength of his position in the UF commitment class.
While Bowens shared with All Gators that he’s 100% locked in, Florida is looking to add another prospect to the running back room to complement the elite ball carrier.
They have made Tallahassee (Fla.) ATH Micahi Danzy, a speed back to pair with Bowens’ power-based skill set, a priority. Danzy was offered by the Gators in the middle of February and they have wasted little time showing him that he is wanted.
Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke is the staff member who serves as Danzy’s main point of contact and is even the one that extended the offer to the talented ball carrier.
He expressed what he likes about Danzy’s game that led to the offer.
“[They like that] I’m a versatile player and that’s what they need, you know. I’m a game changer,” Danzy told All Gators at UA Next Orlando on Sunday.
He was able to get to campus a little before receiving the green light from Billy Napier and his staff. Although he was able to tour the facilities and take several things away from the visit, he knows he wants to get back to Gainesville for a practice.
“They want to keep their players out of trouble, so they keep their players close to the football facility and stuff,” he said before providing his thoughts on the Heavener Football Training Center. "I liked it. Like how you can hang out with [other athletes] that aren’t on the football team in there too. [I want to come back] for one of their spring practices. I want to see how their practice runs and how the environment is.”
Aside from football, Danzy is a standout on the track as well, boasting a 10.61 100-meter time and a 21.42 200-meter. He wants to pursue track in college and Florida has been receptive to that, as have other in-state schools like FSU and Miami.
Danzy isn’t in any rush to get through the recruiting process. However, he does have an idea of when he wants to take his visits and make a final decision.
“I kind of have to take it slow because of track so you know, I’m just kinda mixing it in with my track schedule. But I want to [commit] this summer.”
He’s slated to take his official visits beforehand throughout the summer, with a final decision coming just before his senior season.
If that’s the case, Danzy’s process will speed up significantly to accommodate his timeline.
