Former Clemson Football Player Comments on DJ Uiagalelei's Transfer to FSU
Entering his fifth college football season, DJ Uiagalelei transferred to Florida State after a one-year stint at Oregon State. He threw for 2,638 passing yards while completing 180 of his 315 pass attempts, finding the end zone on 21 occasions through the air with just seven touchdowns in his 12 games played.
Before his breakout season at Oregon State, though, Uiagalelei spent three seasons at Clemson, one of the Seminoles' ACC rivals. He threw for 5,681 passing yards with Clemson while scoring 36 touchdowns with just 17 interceptions.
Of course, transferring to Florida State as a former Tiger, there will be some interesting takes and reactions, given the matchup history between the two teams. Former Clemson offensive lineman Eric Mac Lain took to his show Gramlich & Mac Lain to voice his opinion on the transfer.
“It’s strange. It is super strange,” Mac Lain said. “Even the just coming back across the country – I thought it would’ve been a West Coast thing, just to be closer to family, whatever.”
Again, Uiagalelei's transfer from Clemson allowed him to grow his game at Oregon State. Beyond the Seminoles' evident need for help at the quarterback position as a short-term solution, Mac Lain is interested to see how things will work out for the two sides.
“He’s got a rocket launcher arm. He’s going to have a great offensive line in front of him. I think if he can really commit to the quarterback power and quarterback run, I mean, that’s electric, and that’s hard to stop, being such a big monster like he is,” Mac Lain said of Uiagalelei.
While Mike Norvell didn't recruit Jordan Travis to Tallahassee, he helped him grow and expand his game. With spring football and an offseason to work, it'll be worth watching how Norvell builds a system around Uiagalelei's game.
“But just overall, the scheme is going to be interesting to see how that changes with Florida State having such a guy (in Travis) that can create and be a magician and escape and do these other things, to now kind of more so looking like we saw these last handful of games where there wasn’t a whole lot of points. So, we’ll see,” Mac Lain continued.
The Seminoles and Uiagalelei take on the Tigers in the 2024 college football season in what should be an entertaining matchup.
