An Updated Look at FSU Basketball's 2024-25 Transfer Board

The Seminoles are staying diligent on the transfer market and have multiple experienced players expected to visit Tallahassee.

Florida State's transfer board has started to round into form as some of their players have hit the portal and as they have started scheduling visits with various transfers. Here's an updated look at their current board.

Off the Board

Florida State had reached out to former Furman guard Marcus Foster and former UMASS center Josh Cohen, but both players have committed elsewhere. Foster, one of the first players the Seminoles reached out to, committed to Xavier early last week, while Cohen committed to Arkansas on his visit this past week.

Scheduled Visits to Florida State

Florida State reportedly has three players scheduled to visit Tallahassee: FGCU's Zach Anderson, James Madison's Terrence Edwards Jr., and Hampton's Jerry Deng.

Anderson told us at NoleGameday that he was going to be on campus this weekend for his visit, but looks like that has been delayed. He was 3rd team All-Atlantic Sun conference this past season, averaging 12.8 PPG and shooting 45.9% from 3 and in the 99th percentile in college basketball this season on catch-and-shoot opportunities, converting them with a 72% effective field goal percentage. As a 6'7" wing, he can guard multiple positions and score in a variety of ways. Ideally, he's one of your first pieces off the bench if he were to come to Florida State, but he could be a starter as well. Anderson also visited George Mason and has one year of eligibility remaining.

Something I like to look for with these mid-major players is how they performed in big games or against high-major teams, so here are Anderson's: 23 points against Stetson (won the A-SUN), 21 points and 10 rebounds against Florida Atlantic, 19 points and 7 rebounds at Indiana, and 14 points and 7 rebounds at Minnesota. He's capable of playing against these calibers of teams.

Terrence Edwards Jr. will be visiting campus this Monday, he told us at NoleGameday, and is the most important of the three visitors. Edwards was the Southern Conference Player of the Year for a JMU team that finished 32-4 this season. FSU needs players that know how to win and Edwards did that in bunches while averaging 17.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 3.4 APG. He has great size at 6'6" and 190 pounds and can play the 2 or the 3. If Jamir Watkins were to move on, Edwards could slide right into that starting 3 and if Watkins were to return, FSU could start both players.

Edwards is someone who Florida State is making a priority, as they should. This is the type of transfer that can raise the floor of the program. He has one season of eligibility remaining, has a scheduled visit for Louisville this week, and will be testing the NBA Draft waters as well.

Jerry Deng is supposed to be on campus for a visit on April 12th. A 6'9" freshman from Georgia, Deng shot 39% from 3 and is very long and athletic. With Baba Miller recently announcing his entry into the transfer portal, Florida State needs another body at their 4 and Deng can fit that gap seamlessly. With his length, FSU should be able to get more out of him defensively than he showed last season.

Other Contacts

FSU's coaching staff has reached out to at least ten other prospects that have been reported. Here are those ten players.

Michael Nwoko, Miami: A former 4-star prospect who only averaged around 9 minutes per game this season as a freshman at Miami. He attended three high schools and is already moving on after one season in college, I'm personally not a big fan of that amount of movement and I'd be surprised to see FSU pursue seriously, even if they do need bodies at center.

Jayden Stone, Detroit Mercy: Averaged 20.8 PPG this season and took over 17 shot attempts per game. Started his career at Grand Canyon where he only appeared in 30 games in two seasons. The graduate transfer is mainly a 2-guard, but I'm not sure he's a consistent enough shooter from deep to play the 2 at FSU in a lineup that would also have Jalen Warley.

Roger McFarlane, SE Louisiana: The Florida native averaged 14.8 PPG and 8.6 RPG this season and is a career 36.7% shooter from deep. His performance from deep fell a little bit this season as he had the ball in his hands more and was asked to create more off the dribble; if he were to have more catch-and-shoot opportunities, that percentage would likely go back up. 6'5", 205-pound junior that plays with physicality.

Toby Okani, Illinois-Chicago: An athletic wing that had an extremely productive season defensively, averaging 1.5 SPG and 2.0 BPG. He's also testing the NBA Draft process. He has visits set for St. Bonaventure, West Virginia, and LSU, according to Joe Tipton of On3.

Greg Gordon, Iona: Started his career in JUCO, but was productive in his first season in Division 1, averaging 16 PPG and 7.3 RPG. Unfortunately, he wasn't much of a shooter despite being 6'5" and FSU desperately needs shooters. Another Florida native.

Sam Alexis, UT-Chattanooga: Yet another Florida native, Alexis averaged 10.8 PPG, 9.1 RPG, and 2.1 BPG as a sophomore this season for the Mocs. He's an undersized center at just 6'9", which might make him a little too short for what FSU wants to do, given Coach Hamilton is looking to add some height on the interior.

Rowan Brumbaugh, Georgetown: A guard with size at 6'4", but he's already onto his third program in three seasons, starting his career at Texas where he redshirted, then played for the Hoyas last season averaging 8.3 PPG, 2.6 APG, and 2.2 RPG. FSU already went through one former Georgetown transfer who liked to move between schools, I'm not sure they need another.

Amari Williams, Drexel: The United Kingdom-born center is an impactful upperclassman, averaging 12.9 PPG and 8.3 RPG over his last two seasons. As of now, he seems focused on Big East schools and staying in the Northeast.

Kanaan Carlyle, Stanford: Carlyle was the first Cardinal to hit the portal after Stanford fired their coach and the guard is coming off a strong freshman season, averaging 11.5 PPG. He played for Overtime Elite, the same organization where recent commit Daquan Davis is from, and is from the Atlanta area and could be looking to play closer to home. He's one of the highest-rated transfers in the portal currently.

Bryce Pope. UC San Diego: An undersized 2-guard at 6'3", Pope still had very productive junior and senior seasons, averaging 18.4 PPG and 4.1 RPG over those seasons. I'm not sure FSU needs another smaller guard, especially one like Pope who has never been a strong outside shooter, but they do need players that can fill the basket up.
