Southern Jaguars Dominates No. 18 LSU For A 12-7 Victory | HBCU Baseball
The Jaguars win their first baseball game at LSU since 2005.
The Southern Jaguars defeated the No. 18 LSU Tigers 12-7 at Skip Bertman Field in Baton Rouge, with 10,222 fans in attendance. Monday's match was the first time the Jaguars had won a baseball contest at LSU since 2005. Southern University's last triumph over LSU was beating the Tigers 7-2 at Lee-Hines Field on Apr. 9, 2019.
Antoine Harris won the game after pitching four innings and yielding five runs off four hits.
Southern started the scoring with a 3-run third inning off a homerun by Tyeler Hawkins. The outfielder finished the night with three hits, three runs, and three RBIs.
LSU scored two runs in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Ben Nippolt to advance Travinski and a sacrifice bunt by Milazzo, which scored Brady Neal, giving the Jaguars a 3-2 lead.
Southern opened a scoring parade with five runs in the fifth inning when Ryan Ollison doubled to left center. He brought home three runners, Jalon Mack, Kameron Byrd, and Tyeler Hawkins, to give the Jaguars a 6-3 advantage. Sandifer homered out to left field to increase the lead 8-3 as he and Ollison tagged home plate.
The Tigers would add five additional runs, but Southern's bats kept being lively for most of the evening, giving them a 12-7 upset over the reigning national champions.
Southern had 11 hits from six different Jaguar batters, with Tyeler Hawkins leading the way with three hits (2 RBIs) in six at-bats.
The Jaguars play UAPB on the Bluff at 6:00 PM on Friday, Apr. 5.
