HBCU Esports: SWAC Tournament Grand Champions Crowned in Madden 24 and NBA 2K24

Jackson State and Alabama A&M esports students won $1,500.00 in scholarship funds.

HOUSTON - Alabama A&M (NBA 2K24) and Jackson State (Madden 24) won $1,500 in scholarships and took home the SWAC Esports Tournament Grand Championships.


GM and Rockstar Energy sponsored the esports event at Southern University Law Center's Esports Innovation Lab on Apr. 6.


Alabama A&M's Jaeveon Jordan, the reigning champion, defeated Adriel Armstrong from Grambling State to become the 2024 SWAC Esports Madden 24 Grand Champion.


Jackson State's Marcus Slaughter defeated Makale Kinsey from Southern University to claim the 2024 SWAC Esports NBA2K24 Grand Championship title.


Twenty-four students participating in the 2024 SWAC Esports Tournament Championship Games were awarded HyperX headsets.

Last month, Southern University's Esports team won 3rd Place and $10,000 in scholarship funds at the Hot Pockets Fortnite Rumble. Club advisor Christopher Turner and his squad have won a total of $20,000 in scholarship money in 2024.

According to the SWAC website on Esports: The SWAC is implementing a conference-wide Esports platform starting in September 2020. Along with the Esports launch in the fall, the SWAC is also incorporating an Esports curriculum to all of its member institutions which will be a unique comprehensive study of the Esports industry and its professional job market.

The SWAC partners with General Motors, Rockstar Energy Drink, and Cricket Wireless to support its Esports events and teams.
