Xavier Johnson Out For Season, Will Pursue Medical Hardship Waiver For Next Season

Indiana senior point guard Xavier Johnson will not return to action during the 2022-23 season, but he will pursue a medical hardship waiver for next season.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana senior point guard Xavier Johnson is out for the season, but he will pursue a medical hardship waiver for next year.

“After consulting with my family, coaches and medical staff, I’ve decided to rest for the remainder of the season and will not be returning to competition,” said Johnson in a press release Saturday. “After healing my foot, my focus will be to pursue a medical hardship waiver and return to playing for the Hoosiers next season.”

Johnson underwent surgery after breaking his foot on Dec. 17 at Kansas. Through 11 games, Johnson averaged 9.9 points and 4.9 assists as Indiana's starting point guard.
