Marcus McGregor Discusses Iowa Football Visit
In-State Lineman Spends Saturday with Hawkeyes
Marcus McGregor timed his Iowa Football visit well. He watched the Hawkeyes advance to an important point during spring ball on Saturday.
"It was their first time in full pads and 100 percent. So, it was amazing to see the intensity," the West Des Moines Valley offensive lineman told HN.
In addition to watching practice, McGregor toured the weight room. He spoke with several members of the staff, including head coach Kirk Ferentz.
"He loves how I’m a multi-sport athlete and complimented my footwork as well," the 6-foot-3, 280-pound junior said.
McGregor lined up at left tackle for a Tiger team that reached the Class 5A state semifinals. Valley compiled almost 4,000 yards of offense, including more than 2,100 on the ground.
He's also played for a Tiger basketball program that's won the last two state championships. Iowa Football has enjoyed success with student-athletes that played hoops in high school.
"I love the Hawks and have always been a fan of them. Basically, it's my dream school. But being there (Saturday) made me love it even more," he said.
McGregor recently visited Northern Iowa and picked up a Panthers' scholarship offer. He's also made stops at Wyoming and North Dakota State, and added offers from Sioux Falls and Minnesota State-Mankato.
"Hopefully, I’ll be back up (to Iowa) during the summer or even for a game day next season," he said.
McGregor is learning about the academic offerings at the schools showing interest in him, too.
"In college, I will be majoring in Business or Sports Science," he said.
