An NBA All-Star ballot of just Kentucky Wildcats is totally justified this season
There is never anything wrong with using your ability as a fan to vote all Kentucky Wildcats alumni into the NBA All-Star Game. But this year, perhaps more than ever before, voting for only Kentucky stars actually looks like an entirely legitimate ballot - a testament to coach John Calipari's ability to develop professional talent at every position in the Association.
Fans account for 50% of the vote for the starters, while the rest of the team is determined by head coaches in each conference. Fans can vote once per day online for 10 total players, five in each conference.
Votes are split into two backcourt spots and three frontcourt spots for each conference, and there are a handful of ways to vote for an all-Kentucky All-Star lineup, as shown below:
Eastern Conference Guards (2)
Tyrese Maxey - Philadelphia 76ers
Tyler Herro - Miami Heat
Others: Immanuel Quickley (Toronto)
Eastern Conference Forwards (3)
Bam Adebayo - Miami Heat
Julius Randle - New York Knicks
P.J. Washington - Charlotte Hornets
Others: Isaiah Jackson (Indiana)
Western Conference Guards (2)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - Oklahoma City Thunder
De'Aaron Fox - Sacramento Kings
Others: Devin Booker (Phoenix) Jamal Murray (Denver) Trey Lyles (Sacramento) Malik Monk (Sacramento) Shaedon Sharpe (Portland) Cason Wallace (Oklahoma City)
Western Conference Forwards (3)
Anthony Davis - Los Angeles Lakers
Karl-Anthony Towns - Minnesota Timberwolves
Keldon Johnson - San Antonio Spurs
Others: Jarred Vanderbilt (Los Angeles)
Sure no one who is entirely objective is voting Washington or Johnson into the All-Star Game, but the other eight starters in this example - Maxey, Herro, Adebayo, Randle, SGA, Fox, Davis, and Towns - are having All-Star caliber seasons. Plus, there are even a few players left off the ballot, notably Booker and Murray, who are in that conversation as well.
Voting runs until midnight on January 20, and a link to submit fan votes can be found here.
