7th Inning Stretch: Returning Home (Week 2)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville baseball program's 2024 season could have started on a better note.

Kicking off the season down in Tampa, Fla., the Cardinals were only able to get two games in after their scheduled game against USF had to be cancelled due to inclement weather, but both ended in one-run losses to Indiana State and UConn.

On one hand, both the Sycamores and Huskies are good programs. Indiana State is coming off of making the Super Regionals last season, and UConn is projected to win the Big East. However, Louisville certainly didn't play their best baseball.

Despite plating eight run in the opener against ISU, the Cardinals hit just 15-for-65 (.231) against them and UConn. Louisville got good starting pitching in both games, but each game had shaky work from the bullpen in the middle innings. Additionally, their base running wasn't the most crips and certainly left some runs out on the table.

That being said, it is very much a young season for Louisville. With the Cardinals set to make their home debut this week and play 18-straight home games, they'll have plenty of time to figure things out.
