Louisville Makes Top Four for Recent Transfer Brandon Huntley-Hatfield
The former Cardinals forward is open to playing for new head coach Pat Kelsey.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Brandon Huntley-Hatfield might have entered the transfer portal, but it seems that he is open to a return to the Louisville men's basketball program.
The former Cardinals forward, who entered the portal on Mar. 27, announced his final four schools on Monday night, with a return to Louisville an option on the table. Pitt, UConn and NC State are the other three schools that he is considering.
Huntley-Hatfield joined Mike James as one of just two players to start all 32 games for Louisville this past season, and he was arguably their top player from the 2023-24 season. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward finished as the Cardinals' second-leading scorer behind Skyy Clark at 12.9 points per game, was their leading rebounder at 8.4 boards per game, and he led the team in shooting with a 56.7 field goal percentage.
After spending his true freshman year at Tennessee, the Clarksville, Tenn. native and former five-star prospect transferred to Louisville when Kenny Payne was hired as the head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season. That year, Huntley-Hatfield appeared in 24 games with 21 started, averaging 6.7 points and a team-best 5.4 rebounds per game.
Huntley-Hatfield is one of ten Louisville players who have entered the portal following the end of their disastrous 2023-24 season, with only Ty-Laur Johnson and Hercy Miller in line to return. Louisville fired head coach Kenny Payne after going 12-52 in two seasons at the helm, including 8-24 this past season, and hired Charleston's Pat Kelsey to take over the program on Mar. 28.
While the Cardinals' roster has flipped significantly over the last couple weeks, Kelsey is already starting to work the portal. So far, Louisville has landed two transfers since officially being named the new head coach on Mar. 28: guard Reyne Smith and center James Scott, both of whom are following Kelsey from the Cougars.
