Elite 2025 Guard Brayden Burries Receives Louisville Offer
Burries is the second high school prospect to be extended a scholarship offer from new Cardinals head coach Pat Kelsey.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - While new Louisville men's basketball head coach Pat Kelsey has been extremely busy recruiting the transfer portal for his current team, he and his staff has started to establish relationships with elite high school prospects for the future as well.
San Bernardino (Calif.) Eleanor Roosevelt guard Brayden Burries, one one of the top prospects in the Class of 2025, announced Friday that he has been offered a scholarship to player for the Cardinals. He holds nearly two dozen offers, with Arizona, Duke, Kansas, UCLA and others also having extended offers.
Burries is just the second high school prospect to receive an offer from Kelsey, who was name the Louisville head coach back on Mar. 28. Murray (Ut.) Utah Prep point guard J.J. Mandaquit was the first, receiving his offer this past Thursday.
There's a reason why so many blue blood programs are invested in his recruitment. He is a 247Sports Composite five-star prospect, ranking as the No. 3 shooting guard and No. 13 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle by the metric.
The 6-foot-4, 200-point two guard put together an insane junior year for Eleanor Roosevelt. In 35 games tracked by MaxPreps, he averaged 24.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.7 steals, while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 36.8 percent on three-point attempts. He helped the Mustangs go 31-4 overall and finish as the No. 4 team in the nation.
Not long after the end of Louisville's disastrous 2023-24 campaign, one which resulted in the firing of second-year head coach Kenny Payne, the Cardinals' roster began to flip. In fact, all 12 of Louisville's scholarship players have entered the portal, with only walk-on guard Hercy Miller in line to return.
Fortunately, Kelsey is already starting to work the portal. So far, Kelsey has landed three transfers since officially being named the new head coach on Mar. 28: guard Reyne Smith and center James Scott - both of whom are following Kelsey from Charleston - as well as former James Madison star and 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year Terrence Edwards Jr.
