Report: Louisville Guard Skyy Clark to Enter Transfer Portal
The sophomore is the sixth player to move on from the Cardinals following the end of their 2023-24 season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A regular fixture of the Louisville men's basketball's starting rotation is deciding to continue his college career elsewhere.
Sophomore guard Skyy Clark plans on entering his name into the transfer portal, according to On3's Joe Tipton.
“I’d like to thank Louisville for this experience and appreciate their trust in me as a leader of this program,” Clark told On3. “I grew both as a player and person during my time under Kenny Payne and his staff. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that was given to me. As the Cardinals search for their next head coach, I feel it’s my responsibility to keep my options open as I consider what’s best for my basketball future."
Clark is the sixth Cardinal to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He joins true freshman forwards Curtis Williams and Kaleb Glenn, true freshman center Dennis Evans, sophomore forward Danilo Jovanovich and senior forward J.J. Traynor.
Playing in 29 of Louisville's 32 games with 28 starts, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound guard was one of four players to start at least 20 games for the Cardinals during the 2023-24 season. Clark wound up finishing as the Cardinals' leading scorer, averaging 13.2 points per game on a 41.2 field goal percentage and 35.3 three-point percentage. He also tallied 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, and led Louisville in made three-point field goals with 47.
The Los Angeles, Calif. native joined Louisville last offseason after spending his true freshman season at Illinois. Playing in their first 13 games of the 2022-23 season with 12 starts, he averaged 7.0 points, 3.7 assists and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent on three-point attempts.
Midway through that season, Clark announced that he would be stepping away from basketball due to "personal reasons." He would not play another game for the Fighting Illini, and entered the portal following the end of the season.
The influx of transfers following the end of Louisville's season is not a surprising development. The Cardinals finished their 2023-24 campaign with an overall record of just 8-24 and 3-17 in ACC play, resulting in the dismissal second-year head coach Kenny Payne.
