Top Safety Recruit Talks Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes did not sign a pure safety in the 2023 recruiting class. For the class of 2024, at least two, if not three, safeties will need to be signed.
One of the safety prospects that Miami offered already would be Brandon Jacob from Orlando (Fla.) Evans. It’s the same high school that current Miami freshman safety Markeith Williams came from.
During the Elite 7v7 tournament in Haines City, Fla. on Saturday, Jacob displayed his natural athleticism and football talent, and then sat down for an interview with All Hurricanes.
The 6-foot-2 and 175-pound prospect has seen his recruitment go into hyperdrive the past couple of months, and that’s where the interview began.
“Right now, I really have Miami, Maryland, Florida State, UCF, Colorado and Alabama,” Jacob said. “Those are really the teams that hit me up right now.”
He certainly has earned more offers, as Kentucky, Cincinnati, Florida, South Carolina, Penn State, Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, North Carolina and Ole Miss have been some of Jacob’s other college opportunities.
When asked about college visits coming up, Jacob mentioned one school that has a visit coming up.
“I’m thinking about going to Miami on March 4 right now.”
Since Jacob brought up the Hurricanes, he was then asked about Miami’s new defensive coordinator Lance Guidry.
“There should be a turnaround (for Miami's defense). That’s what I think. I expect a turnaround, to be honest.”
With Guidry just recently being hired, the relationships that Jacob built with the Miami staff has begun with other coaches.
“I really talk to (secondary) coach (Jahmile) Addae and (quality control analyst) Terry Jefferson, Jr.
“They just check on me daily, make sure I’m okay and stuff like that. Make sure everything is good at home, make sure everything is good at school.”
When asked why the Canes had been recruiting him, Jacob offered the following.
“They like my game, they like that I’m a ball hawk.”
While it’s the early portion of Jacob’s recruitment, he does have a tentative timeline to make a college decision.
“My goal is to commit by my senior season at least. August or September.”
Miami has made an early impression with one of the nation’s top rising safety recruits. He’s ranked by On3 as the No. 224 player in the country, 20th safety, and as the 28th overall player in the Sunshine State.
To reiterate an important point that Jacob brought up, Miami will gain another shot to impress him in March. That should be a key visit as he will meet new members of the Miami coaching staff, Guidry most importantly.
Jacob’s recruitment will be fun to follow, especially with Miami competing with programs like FSU, Alabama and Colorado that also prioritized recruiting the greater Orlando area.
