Former Kentucky Wildcat C Aaron Bradshaw Could Be Michigan State, Tom Izzo Transfer Portal Target
The Michigan State Spartans and Tom Izzo could target former 5-star Kentucky big man Aaron Bradshaw this offseason.
With the offseason underway for Michigan State basketball, head coach Tom Izzo can look to the transfer portal to find ways to bolster his team. One player Izzo can look to will be former Kentucky Wildcats center Aaron Bradshaw.
Bradshaw entered the transfer portal Monday after his former head coach John Calipari's departure for SEC-rival Arkansas. As a freshman last season, Bradshaw recovered from an offseason foot injury to play in 26 games for the Wildcats and make 10 starts -- per Kentucky athletics. He averaged 4.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game. In his first career start against No. 9 North Carolina, he scored 12 points and made the game-winning free throws in a 87-83 victory. Bradshaw made key offensive and defensive plays -- including a 3-pointer to help take the lead for good -- in a comeback win against Florida. His performance in that contest earned him SEC Freshman of the Week honors. In just his second game -- against Penn -- Bradshaw tallied 17 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks.
Bradshaw has an athletic, 7-foot-1 frame. He was a highly touted recruit in the Class of 2023 -- rated as a five-star prospect by 247Sports, with a 99 grade -- ranked the No. 1 center and No. 5 overall player in the class.
Our NBA Draft Digest Staff believes there is a lot to like about Bradshaw. They consider him a "clear" first-round talent.
"He has a smooth jumper for his size and has no problem pulling up in mid-range," the Staff wrote. "Sometimes he tends to fall in love with the outside jumper a little too often [...] As of today he’s more of a play finisher, but has the tools to grow into more of a true offensive hub."
In the report, the Staff also touted his ability in his own end.
"Defensively, Bradshaw is very mobile for his size and will be effective in multiple pick-and-roll coverages at the next level. He is an elite rim protector that has a great combination of size, length and defensive instincts," they wrote.
Bradshaw brings a lot to the table with his size and tools -- and Izzo should try to make him a Spartan.
