Where Michigan State's Aidan Chiles Ranks Among Big Ten QBs

New Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles is heading into just his second year of college football, but the expectations surrounding the young Spartan are already quite high.

In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, College Football Report had Chiles ranked No. 6 on its list of Big Ten quarterbacks ahead of the 2024 season.

The entire list is as follows:

Chiles comes off his first collegiate season, which he spent with Oregon State. He joined the Spartans through the transfer portal, following former Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith.

The Big Ten has been loaded at the quarterback position for years, so for Chiles to be ranked within the top 10 is quite the honor.

According to Smith, Chiles has already made quite the leap from when he was first beginning his college career to where he is now, less than a year later.

"It's a lot different," Smith told media members on April 2. "He's so much more comfortable. Physically, he's bigger, he's about 20 pounds heavier, so that's a difference. That group in general; Tommy [Schuster] been making plays; the two young freshman [Alessio Milivojevic and Ryland Jessee] have made some plays. We feel like that group has been working really well together."

Smith said he had been pleased with Chiles' practices so far.

"I think he's been solid," he said. "The offense part hasn't been hard on him. Just getting timing with those guys, he's working at it. I think he's done solid so far."

Some of the Big Ten’s more notable quarterbacks in recent years have included Justin Fields, C.J. Stroud, J.J. McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr.

Oregon's Gabriel already has the third-best odds (+1000) to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
