Why LB Darius Snow Decided to Stay at Michigan State
Michigan State linebacker Darius Snow originally entered his name in the transfer portal this offseason before withdrawing it and returning to the Spartans.
Following another season that saw him miss significant time due to injury, Michigan State linebacker Darius Snow, entered his name in the transfer portal.
With the past two seasons having essentially been stripped from him and a new regime moving into the Spartans' program, it would have made sense for Snow to look elsewhere to complete his two seasons of eligibility.
But Snow chose to remain a Spartan.
"I mean, I kind of had selfishly -- I wouldn't say selfishly -- in my mind, I had already made my mind at the end of the season that I was going to enter it [the transfer portal]" Snow told reporters after Michigan State's spring practice on Tuesday. " I mean, I talked to a few schools. My thing was, in my mind and talking to my dad and my trainer back home, with the new staff and everything, it wouldn't be really different.
"If I go to a different school, I'd have to create a new kind of friendship and understanding toward the new coaches; that's no different than what I'm doing here. And then, just the difference is I don't have to move all my stuff."
Snow is also working towards his master's degree in strategic communication at Michigan State.
"So, this is currently the second semester of my fourth year," he said. "But in terms of classes, I'm close to, like, my fifth, so I will be getting my master's in December. I would get it earlier if I was allowed to, but you can only do the capstone in the fall. But I'll have three degrees after that. So, I mean, that helps a lot, too.
"So, I mean, there's a lot of factors. At the end of the day, like I said, the coach this year, especially Coach [Joe] Rossi. He was really straightforward when he came here. He said, 'I view you as this,' and that's what I've done."
After suffering a season-ending injury in the very first week of the 2022 season, Snow returned to play in Week 3 last season, his redshirt junior season with the Spartans, but unfortunately suffered another season-ending injury after playing just four games.
The Michigan State Spartan Football "Spring Showcase" will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
