4-Star 2025 Wide Receiver Puts Michigan State In Top 10

Michigan State football is making its presence felt in the Lone Star State...

We haven't quite hit the heart of '"commit season" in the 2025 recruiting cycle — that typically comes during the months of May, June and July. However, Michigan State football has started to position itself for a successful stretch this upcoming summer.

On Thursday, the Spartans were included within the Top-10 finalists for four-star Frisco (Texas) Lone Star wide receiver Bryson Jones, alongside Texas A&M, Tennessee, Arkansas, SMU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Boston College, Baylor and Pittsburgh.

Jones is considered the No. 300 overall prospect, No. 37 wide receiver and No. 51 player from the state of Texas in the class of 2025, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder has received 23 scholarship offers from Division I programs in total.

During his 2023 season as a high school junior, Jones totaled 1,092 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns on 64 receptions, averaging 17.1 yards per reception. The Lone Star State native is scheduled to take official visits to Arkansas (May 31) and Texas A&M (June 21) so far this summer, and those two programs are the perceived leaders in his recruitment, according to 247Sports.

Michigan State wide receiver coach Courtney Hawkins is the Spartans' primary recruiter in the battle for Jones. Hawkins was arguably the top assistant coach during the previous coaching regime under Mel Tucker and was the only prior assistant retained by new head coach Jonathan Smith. The 54-year-old has had a lot of success on the recruiting trail in East Lansing, landing the likes of Keon Coleman, Jaron Glover, Antonio Gates Jr. and others for Michigan State.

Michigan State is still looking for its first commitment in the 2025 class, but the Spartans have made some headway in recent weeks with a pair of targets. The Spartans hosted 3-star in-state linebacker Charles White during spring practice on Thursday, and have recently extended a scholarship offer to 3-star tight end Brody Lennon out of Gates Mills, Ohio. MSU was included in three-star Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth linebacker Sam Haley's Top 8 on Tuesday, and also made the Top 8 for three-star University of Detroit (Mich.) Jesuit athlete Elijah Dotson, who projects as a defensive back at the collegiate level.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spartan Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
