Death Of Mississippi State Student Remains Under Investigation
A Mississippi State student was found dead in a parked vehicle on Sunday afternoon, and his death remains under investigation per campus officials.
"The investigation is ongoing," Sid Salter, MSU vice president for Strategic Communications, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "MSU will have no additional comment until midday on Monday, Aug. 28. We ask respect for the privacy of the family and our students at this sad and difficult time."
MSU Police Chief Kenneth Rogers said the department received a call after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27 about the incident. The male student was found unresponsive.
Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt pronounced the student dead at the scene. The body was removed from the scene by Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.
The news of the death comes on the heels of the university receiving reports of suspicious device found in an unnamed dormitory. Hathorn, Hull, Nunnelee and Sessums halls were evacuated as the four buildings were investigated by emergency personnel.
The buildings were cleared in a search that came up empty with no device found, while the incident remains under investigation.
The university has since resumed all normal operations following the two incidents.
