Did You Notice?

• The football team's slim bowl hopes were still alive late Saturday night. With the final two bowl slots to be determined, Mississippi State needed both Cal to lose to UCLA, and Colorado State to lose to Hawaii, as it was second on the list of 5-7 potential qualifiers behind Minnesota. Hawaii won on a last-second field goal, but Cal winning 33-7 eliminated the Bulldogs as the Gophers were the only 5-7 team needed to fill the full bowl allotment.

• The volleyball team honored Alexa Fortin Goede, Zoe Gonzales, Lauren Myrick, Emily Oerther and volleyball manager Zach Stepp on Senior Night. Myrick finished with 1,120 digs, 754 kills, and 142 assists. In Oerther's two seasons with the Bulldogs, she collected 638 assists, 203 digs and 23 aces. Goede tallied 325 assists and 126 digs, while Gonzales issued 61 kills and 57 blocks.

• Men's basketball forward KeShawn Murphy's return from a foot injury Friday against Nichols just happened to be on his 21st birthday. "It felt really good," Murphy said per the Mississippi State website. "I enjoyed the atmosphere. I enjoyed the love I got. It was great to get back on the floor."

• The women's basketball team has forced 10-plus turnovers in all seven games this season.

Quote of the Day:

"Jeff and I have obviously known each other since the early 2000s as a former player at Oklahoma, when I was on staff there. Watched him grow in the profession. Been around a lot of successful coaches and offenses and players. Just got a great depth of experience of coaching multiple positions himself, offensively.

"The one common denominator wherever he's been, has been explosive, attacking offenses. I believe in an aggressive mindset. I think creating stress on the opponent is what it is all about, not allowing people to get comfortable. We like to do it on defense, and I like to have an offense that is continually pushing the pedal in regard to philosophy and schemes."

— Oklahoma coach Brent Venables about Jeff Lebby at last year's Cheez-It Bowl
