- FootballScoop.com called Liberty head coach Jamey Chadwell “a top target,” to be the next coach at Mississippi State, it has also been in contact with a handful of coaches who have SEC ties including Jacksonville State’s Rich Rodriguez, UNLV’s Barry Odom and Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. Interim coach Greg Knox is also a potential candidate.
- Men's basketball is one of eight programs nationally to end last weekend's action with at least a 5-0 record. The Bulldogs are joined by Miami as the only programs to sport three non-conference victories over Power 5 schools.
- The Mississippi State men's and women's basketball squads are both 5-0, No. 25 in the AP Top 25, and among eight programs nationally to have both teams teams ranked. The Bulldogs are joined by Tennessee from the SEC along with Baylor, Colorado, Connecticut, North Carolina, Southern Cal and Texas.
