Bad got worse for Mississippi State baseball on Friday night win Baton Rouge as the Bulldogs dropped the first game of the series against the No. 2-ranked LSU Tigers in a 12-1 run-rule loss.

The heat is on for head coach Chris Lemonis and the remaining members of his staff as the Bulldogs fall to 24-24 overall and 6-19 in SEC play as the last games on the schedule wind down.

Here's everything Lemonis had to say following the loss:

Question: "What are your thoughts on facing one of the top pitchers in the country tonight?"

Chris Lemonis: "Their guy pitched great. That’s one of the better guys I’ve seen in my career. We pitched off a little bit, some of our young guys, just trying to make something happen this weekend. We fell behind early, but I give our guys credit. In the fifth inning, it was 5-1, and we’re still in this. Then we give up the two crooked numbers late which was not good. Brock Tapper was pretty good. He held things together for us."

Q: "The one guy we handled well was their best hitter Crews, what did you think of that?"

CL: "I thought our guys did well on him. We just have to make more pitches. We’ve got Cade going tomorrow so hopefully we’ll get a good start, and get after them."

Q: We had a couple of misplays there in the sixth inning that opened the door for them.

CL: "Mershon said he lost that one ball because of the lighting. The bunt and the squib were unfortunate, base hits that just found soft areas. Brock falls off so hard to the third base side on the first one. The bunt was in a perfect spot and he didn’t come up with it as clean as he should have. When you do that with that offense, you’re gonna have problems. You can’t give them freebies. No walks, no errors. You’ve got to make them earn it. They’ve got good hitters in there."

Q: They look like the No. 1, No. 2 team in the country, don’t they?

CL: "They’re good, especially with Skenes on the mound. Maybe the best team in the country when he’s pitching. The team that’s No. 1 may have a couple of extra arms in there. But we’ll see some good arms over the weekend too. They’ve got other good arms."
