The Spark the Tigers Needed Against Minnesota - Mizzou Minute

Joey Van Zummeren breaks down how Caleb Grill's ejection motivated the Missouri Tigers to pull off an incredible comeback over Minnesota.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Welcome to MizzouCentral's "Mizzou Minute," where MizzouCentral writers provide a rundown on everything in the world of Missouri Tigers athletics.

Watch the video above as Joey Van Zummeren breaks down Mizzou men's basketball remarkable 21-point comeback over Minnesota on Thursday night.

From the words of head coach Dennis Gates and guard Nick Honor, the Tigers needed to face adversity in order to fight back, including an ejection for Iowa State transfer Caleb Grill.

Thursday's win for Mizzou pushed the Tigers to 3-1 on the season. Their only loss of the season was a 70-55 loss to Memphis last Monday. Gates believes this early season loss provided plenty of lessons for his team and that if the Tigers had not lost to Memphis last week, they wouldn't have won over Minnesota.

The Tigers' win over the Gophers was the first time ever that Mizzou had won over Minnesota.

Mizzou will look to build momentum off of their impressive second-half comeback when they return to Mizzou Arena this Sunday to take on Jackson State at 5 p.m. The Tigers will stay put in Columbia for two more games against South Carolina State and Loyola (Maryland). Gates aimed to create a tough non-conference schedule for the 2023 season in order for his team to be met with challenges early and ,hopefully, grow from them.
