We've come a long way since head coach Eli Drinkwitz said that the Missouri Tigers might use three quarterbacks in the season opener against South Dakota, and players were splitting reps with the first unit during practices.
Roles have been defined and jobs won. Like usual, competition has led to the top players rising, and considering the football team's record one has to conclude that it all worked pretty well ... and that's on a team that welcomed back 18 starters, the second most in the Southeastern Conference, including preseason All-SEC selections Kris Abrams-Draine, Ty’Ron Hopper and Darius Robinson on defense, along with Javon Foster at left tackle and All-American kicker Harrison Mevis.
But there have also been a lot of freshmen in key reserve roles, players who will look less and less like first-year additions as the season continues to progress.
