5-Star Wide Receiver Ryan Wingo Commits to Texas Over Missouri

Wide receiver Ryan Wingo would have been Missouri's second 5-star commit and the 16th overall.

The Missouri Tigers lost out on a 5-star prospect in the 2024 class on Wednesday after wide receiver Ryan Wingo committed to Texas over the Tigers, Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Miami.

Missouri, Georgia and Texas were the only schools among the finalists that he took official visits for, per On3 Recruiting, and he was at Mizzou's win over South Carolina last weekend.

Wingo would have joined edge rusher Williams Nwaneri to become the second 5-star Missouri commit and the 16th member of the Tigers' class. He would have also shared the receiver room with 3-star James Madison II from St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). Madison measures at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds.

The 6-foot-1.5, 210-pound prospect out of St. Louis University High School in St. Louis, Missouri is ranked as the No. 7 wide receiver in the nation, the No. 2 senior in the state and the No. 26 prospect in the class, per On3 Recruiting.

This season, he has nearly 500 receiving yards on 32 catches with four touchdowns. During the 2022-23 season, he had 41 catches for 785 yards, scoring 12 touchdowns.

If he were to ever transfer to his home-state school, Wingo's solid size and reportedly 10.64-second 100-meter speed gives him an advantage against opposing cornerbacks, whether it be in the slot or on the outside, as his route-running and catch radius should lead him to success. He's also a potential asset in the return game.

Wingo's addition would also help the Tigers further their up-and-coming success, as Missouri is off to their best start since 2013 at 7-1. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company have done a very solid job in this recruiting cycle, and adding Wingo would further their SEC climbing mission immensely.
