Mizzou Has Record 3 Players Land FWAA All-American Honors

Tigers tied with five other schools for most overall selections, but likely won't have a consensus first-team selection.

The 2023 Football Writers Association of America All-America Team was named Monday morning, and Missouri football had three players honored in the same season for the first time.

Missouri has three players on the second team – offensive lineman Javon Foster, who was blocking for running back Cody Schrader. Defensive back Kris Abrams-Draine also made second team.

Schrader was the Tigers’ first selection at running back since 1965 (Johnny Roland).

Michigan, the top seed in the College Football Playoff, and Washington, seeded second, each had three members on the first team to tie for the national lead along with Georgia, Iowa, Missouri and Notre Dame – together those six schools make up one-third of the 54-man teams.

The FWAA is one of five services the NCAA uses to determine consensus and unanimous status for All-Americans, along with the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation and The Sporting News.

The Walter Camp was released Friday, and didn't include any Mizzou players as first-team selections, with Schrader and Abrams-Draine second-team picks. A Missouri player will essentially have to almost sweep the final three services to be a consensus first-team selection.
