A big part of being recruited to a school is initially being offered by the program. Following the offer is typically the best time to build a relationship with not only the coaches but the program as a whole.
Leo Almanza Jr, is one of the more recent names to receive a Nebraska Cornhuskers offer.
Almanza will be a senior this fall at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas. He measures in at around 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds according to On3 and holds many offers. He recapped his Nebraska offer with HuskerMax.
“I was very excited,” Almanza stated. “It’s a really good opportunity to possibly be a part of their team and community. Especially with Coach Rhule (head coach Matt Rhule) and how great he’s been as a coach. The Big Ten is a conference with a lot of competition.”
He talked about which coach he's been connecting with.
“I’m definitely starting to build a connection with Coach G (wide receivers coach Garret McGuire). He’s a cool guy. Super genuine, younger guy, and someone who I can relate to. He’s been the main communicator and the coach who offered me.”
He talked about which position he is getting recruited for.
“They are recruiting me as an ATH (athlete) which is cool because they believe in me enough to have me play either side of the ball.” Almanza plays wide receiver and cornerback in high school.
“They have a lot of good stuff coming in the future. They also have a great coaching staff.”
He talked about who stands out in Nebraska to him.
“Mario Buford is a name that stands out because he went to DeSoto which is about 45 minutes away from where I’m at. I used to see a bunch of media coverage on him.” Buford is an incoming freshman defensive back for the Huskers.
Almanza also talked about how he plans to visit.
“I plan to visit, I’m just not sure what date yet.”
