Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines Prediction for The Game: Saturday, 11/25
Both teams enter this matchup with perfect 11-0 records but took more different paths to get there. The Buckeyes faced a solid schedule, including an early-season showdown with a quality Notre Dame squad. The Wolverines, meanwhile, breezed through their out-of-conference slate and have really only played one opponent with even a remotely similar talent level – Penn State.
With that being said, UM’s numbers on the surface may be a bit overblown. Sure, they’re the most dominant defense in the country by the statistics, but they haven’t faced a receiver that will test them like Marvin Harrison Jr. in this one. Even first-year starter Kyle McCord is probably the best signal caller they’ve gone up against this campaign.
Similarly, though, this Michigan offense is much different than anything this OSU defense has seen thus far. Their backfield duo of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards instill fear in most opposing units, while quarterback J.J. McCarthy has had as efficient a season as ever, and continues to be dynamic with his legs.
Whether it’s both teams’ offenses breaking through or the defenses standing tall, we expect this to be a battle right down to the wire. Because of this, our Ohio State vs. Michigan best bets stay away from the game total and will highlight a spread pick, which we’ll detail below.
Ohio State vs. Michigan Best Bets & Expert Picks
With the way we ended that last section, you might be able to guess where our Ohio State vs. Michigan prediction will land. Even on the road in one of the toughest environments in the country, we like OSU to at least be able to hang around, if not win the game outright. Harrison Jr. should give the Wolverine defense fits, even against stud defensive backs like Will Johnson and Mike Sainristil. Ohio State also appears to be hitting its stride at the right time, scoring 35+ points in three consecutive outings.
Defensively, the Buckeyes should actually feel good about their chances to at least slow down this UM attack. Michigan has struggled to produce much on the offensive side of the ball in back-to-back weeks, including against a Maryland team that doesn’t even sniff the talent that OSU has. McCarthy has also appeared hobbled in recent weeks, and they’ve potentially shown their lack of trust in putting the game in his hands with their run-dominant gameplans the last two weeks.
To aid our case of the Buckeyes keeping things close at the bare minimum, the Wolverines have gone just 1-2 ATS the last three weeks and own a lackluster 1-3-1 record in that department at home this season. Whether OSU is actually able to pull off the upset or not remains to be seen, but it’s not difficult at all to imagine them falling by three or less. So, at the end of the day, our Ohio State vs. Michigan picks will take the Buckeyes +3.5 (-112 at FanDuel).
