Elite DE Recruit KingJoseph Edwards Excited for Ohio State Official Visit
Few college football recruits have the option of a KingJoseph Edwards.
The Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek defensive lineman reports more than 30 scholarship offers to his name despite missing the bulk of the 2022 season with an injury. It was the previous body of work on his 6-foot-5, 240-pound frame that helped propel the junior up recruiting boards in the class of 2024.
As his junior academic year comes to a close, Edwards is taking the next steps toward an eventual college decision.
“Ohio State on June 16,” he told Buckeyes Now. “This will be my first official visit.
“Their message is to come there and play defensive end. They ensure me if I play hard, practice and remain coachable they will train me to be an elite defensive player.”
Edwards, who has already been to Columbus and has been targeted by Ryan Day’s coaching staff for about one year, says it’s his relationship with the head Buckeye and potential position coach Larry Johnson that has the program in high regard.
“(Johnson) Like a mentor, uncle. Educator,” he said. “Knowledgeable.”
Edwards is currently working with a top 15 among programs he is considering, but official visits will play a key role in breaking the list down further. In addition to OSU, programs like “Bama, UGA, Tennessee, Michigan” could be poised to soon get the blue-chip recruit on campus.
The plan is for Edwards to take all five of his official visits between the spring and summer months, with a potential preseason decision expected before he suits up for Mill Creek High School in the fall.
“My concern is coaching staff,” Edwards said of his decision timeline and its key factors. “I want to make sure the coaches I have a rapport with will still be with the programs I’m interested in.”
Edwards is ranked as a top 50 overall recruit in the class of 2024 247Sports Composite measure.
