Sooners in the NFL 2023: Week 12
It was a rough start for the former Oklahoma quarterback, but Sunday turned into the Jalen Hurts show — as it has many times this season.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts won game No. 10 on the year, a league best with just one loss. The team has all but locked up a playoff spot, and Hurts could be making a late push at the league’s MVP award.
In back-to-back weeks, Hurts has out-dueled Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, walking away victorious and coming through when the Eagles needed it most.
On Sunday, Hurts totaled 200 yards and three touchdowns through the air, including an interception. He completed 18-of-31 passes. As always, though, he was lethal with his legs too. He ran for 65 yards on 14 carries and added two touchdowns, including the game winner in overtime. He went on two long drives to close the game, one to tie it in regulation and one to win it in the extra period. When the game is on the line, he just shows up.
On the season, Hurts now has 2,697 yards passing and 18 touchdowns and another 410 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing.
Sunday was another crushing loss for Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although Mayfield played a solid game, a fumble on the last drive ended any hopes of tying the game in a 27-20 loss.
He finished the game with 199 yards on 20-of-30 passing and two touchdowns, adding an interception. Mayfield worked through an ankle injury that looked worse after the game than it did when he fought through it. On the season, Mayfield is up to 2,588 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The Arizona Cardinals offense struggled to find anything positive on Sunday, but Kyler Murray finished with 256 yards and two total touchdowns with no turnovers. He found former Oklahoma teammate Marquise Brown for six catches and 88 yards. The Cardinals fell 37-14.
Rhamondre Stevenson rumbled for 98 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, but couldn't power the Patriots to victory. He scored the only New England touchdown of the game.
