Sooners in the NFL: Five Former Oklahoma Players Selected For Pro Bowl
On Wednesday, the NFL announced on Wednesday the complete rosters for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, and the Oklahoma Sooners are well represented. This year's Pro Bowl isn't the traditional format old school fans are used to, as it has transitioned to a "week-long celebration of player skills featuring an exciting new format that spotlights flag football."
Oklahoma had five total players named to the Pro Bowl Games which is the third-most of any college program.
Out of the five selected, three were offensive linemen, continuing the trend for the Sooners' strong reputation in the trenches in the NFL. Creed Humphrey of the Kansas City Chiefs, Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles and Trent Williams of the San Francisco 49ers will represent the Sooners up front.
Humphrey is in his third NFL season, while Johnson and Williams are still dominating late into the twilight of their careers.
Outside of the offensive line, the Sooners added two wide receivers to the Pro Bowl mix. Both CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys and Marvin Mims of the Denver Broncos were chosen.
Lamb has had one of the most impressive seasons in the NFL and has broken multiple Cowboys records in the process, including franchise single-season receptions and yards. He has 122 catches for 1,651 yards and 10 touchdowns with a game left. Lamb is currently second in the NFL in receiving yards, first in receptions and fourth in touchdowns.
Mims was listed as a return specialist, where he has excelled for the Broncos all year long. His signature play was a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown Week 3 at Miami, and has been a dangerous return man all season. His 17.4-yard punt return average leads all NFL players with at least 10 tries. Mims also averaged 26.3 yards per kick return.
Both Jalen Hurts and Baker Mayfield have had impressive seasons, but neither were chosen for the Pro Bowl Games.
