OSU Basketball: Montana Transfer Guard Commits to Cowgirls
Jacie Hoyt's team has another transfer commitment going into next season.
Oklahoma State continues to make solid transfer additions this offseason.
The Cowgirls’ latest commitment from the transfer portal comes from Macey Huard, a freshman transfer from Montana. A 6-foot-2 guard, Huard is a welcome addition to Jacie Hoyt’s team going into next season.
Along with the Cowgirls signing former Oklahoma high school standout Micah Gray, Huard’s commitment gives them momentum heading into a new-look Big 12 in 2025. Huard’s size should help her create mismatches, as she will be the second-tallest player on the team’s current roster despite being a guard.
Last season with the Grizzlies, Huard averaged 7.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game off the bench. Huard played a significant role in helping the Grizzlies finish third in the Big Sky, with an overall record of 23-10.
Huard will look to help OSU rebound from a tough 14-16 season and make the NCAA Tournament for the second time in Hoyt’s tenure. Huard’s style of play should fit in well at OSU.
Playing for one of the highest-volume 3-point shooting teams in the country at Montana, Huard made 36.1% of her shots from that range on three attempts per game to make up nearly half of her total shot attempts. Under Hoyt, the Cowgirls’ offense has relied heavily on the outside shot, and bringing in players who share that ability should help the team get back to the success it saw in 2023.
Despite coming off the bench every game, Huard still had nine games scoring in double figures, including a season-high 16 points in Montana’s WNIT win against Boise State. She was also one of Montana’s best free throw shooters, making 83.1% of her shots at the line.
The Cowgirls need some firepower going into next season, and adding a high-volume shooter could give them what they are looking for.
