OSU Basketball: Cowgirls in the WNBA Draft
OSU might not have any players drafted this year, but the Cowgirls have been well-represented in the WNBA.
Oklahoma State has plenty of great players throughout the years, and some of its most recent have made an impact at the next level.
The next group of college stars will learn where they will play next season during the WNBA Draft on Monday night. Although Jacie Hoyt and OSU will not have any players making the jump this season, the Cowgirls are no strangers to the draft.
Recent Cowgirls in the WNBA:
Natasha Mack, 2021 - Second Round, 16th overall pick
After two seasons in Stillwater, Mack saw her success pay off in the draft. At OSU, Mack was a two-time All-Big 12 selection, the 2021 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and an AP All-American.
Averaging four blocks in 2021, Mack led the country and put up some eye-popping box scores. Her most impressive game came in a win against TCU, where she scored 28 points, 17 rebounds, 10 blocks and six steals.
After seeing her college success, the Chicago Sky took Mack in the second round before their 2021 championship season. However, Mack did not make the Sky’s regular season roster.
Although she has not been able to stick in the W so far, Mack is entering 2024 training camp on the Phoenix Mercury.
WNBA career stats: Four games, 1.5 points, 1.0 rebounds
Tiffany Bias, 2014 - Second Round, 17th overall pick
Bias was a star for the Cowgirls across four seasons in Stillwater. The star point guard earned three All-Big 12 selections and a Big 12 All-Defense selection in 2014.
At OSU, Bias averaged 12.2 points, 5.9 assists and 2.2 steals while starting 131 of 132 games. After the Mercury drafted her in 2014, Bias played in four playoff games as they won the WNBA title.
WNBA career stats: 54 games, 1.8 points, 0.6 assists, 2014 WNBA Champion
Toni Young, 2013 - First Round, Seventh overall pick
Playing alongside Bias in her final three seasons, Young was a talented forward for four seasons in Stillwater. Although she had solid averages throughout her career, she improved those numbers as a senior.
In the 2012-13 season, Young averaged 16 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.6 steals. At OSU, she was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and won WNIT MVP in 2012. She also nearly dunked in the Cowgirls’ 2013 NCAA Tournament win against DePaul.
After that season, the New York Liberty drafted Young in the first round, where she played for two seasons.
WNBA career stats: 39 games, 3.5 points, 1.6 rebounds
Andrea Riley, 2010 - First round, Eighth overall pick
In four seasons at OSU, Riley was a superstar scorer and is arguably the best women’s basketball player in school history. Riley finished her career as OSU’s all-time leading scorer with 2,835 points.
Riley earned many honors throughout her career, including two AP All-America selections and three All-Big 12 selections. Her most memorable performance as a Cowgirl came in 2008.
In front of a Cowgirl attendance record of 13,611 in Gallagher-Iba Arena, Riley had a legendary performance against Oklahoma. She scored a career-high 45 points in the Cowgirls’ 82-63 Bedlam win.
In 2010, Riley became the first Cowgirl to be drafted in the WNBA when the Los Angeles Sparks took her in the first round. She played the most games in the WNBA by any OSU player, playing 73 games across three seasons with the Sparks, Tulsa Shock and Mercury.
WNBA career stats: 73 games, 4.4 points, 1.4 assists
Brittney Martin in 2016 and Loryn Goodwin in 2018 were also drafted but never played in the WNBA.
As some of the Cowgirls’ best have represented OSU in the past, it might only be a matter of time until Hoyt’s team has another player in the WNBA.
