OSU Freshman Transfer Receiving Interest from Cowboys' Rivals

The former Cowboy big man is receiving no shortage of interest.

An Oklahoma State transfer could be nearing a decision on his next school.

After a successful freshman season, Brandon Garrison is receiving interest from some of OSU’s biggest rivals. According to Joe Tipton’s report, Oklahoma, Texas and Xavier are among the teams interested in Garrison.

Oklahoma is also set to host Garrison on a visit. Garrison, who went to high school in Del City, could be a strong candidate to stay in his home state.

Garrison entered the transfer portal after the Cowboys fired Mike Boynton, who had coached the team for the past seven seasons. In the nearly three weeks between Boynton’s firing and the Cowboys' hiring of Steve Lutz, Garrison’s recruitment picked up steam as one of the top transfers in the country.

With OSU, Garrison showed his potential to become a star big man in a power conference. He averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in his lone season in Stillwater.

He finished his freshman season in the top five in the Big 12 in blocks and in the top 10 in rebounding percentage. In 32 games at OSU, Garrison started 29 and had a breakout performance in his first Big 12 game.

Against Baylor, Garrison scored 20 points on perfect shooting to go with eight rebounds and four blocks. Although OSU lost that game along with many others, Garrison’s freshman performance was one of the team’s bright spots last season.

However, most bright spots from last season have not lasted into the offseason. Many of OSU’s top performers last season have entered the transfer portal, with Javon Small, Eric Dailey Jr. and Quion Williams joining Garrison.

Without Garrison, OSU will need to find someone else to play inside under Lutz. As the Cowboys look for his replacement, Garrison is sure to make a positive impact at his next stop.
