Big 12 Recap: How's Things Fare During Oklahoma State Bye Week?
The Oklahoma State football team got a much-needed bye week during Week 5 of the college football season. As they sit at 2-2 on the season, the rest of the Big 12 continues conference play. The Cowboys first Big 12 matchup was a loss to Iowa State.
For the Cowboys, even though they're not playing, there's much to be learned this weekend as they await results from the rest of the league.
Here's how the Week 5 slate of Big 12 play has been shaking out so far.
BYU vs. Cincinnati (Friday): BYU wins 35-27 in a Friday night showdown to kick off the weekend. Emory Jones did a bit of everything for Cincinnati, as he racked up 350 all-purpose yards, throwing for three touchdowns and one interception. He led his team to their first conference win in the Big 12.
Texas Tech vs. Houston: Texas Tech takes down Houston 49-28 as the Red Raiders show the Cougars what Big 12 play is truly like. For Texas Tech, they get their first conference win as Houston moves to 0-2 in the Big 12 in their first year. The Cowboys play Houston later in the season.
Texas vs. Kansas: The Longhorns defeated the Jaylon Daniels-less Jayhawks 40-14. The Jayhawks simply didn't have enough in the passing game. Daniels' injury was a re-aggravated back injury, and it'll be something for the Cowboys to watch as they play them a couple of weeks from now.
UCF vs. Baylor: Baylor completes a 28-point comeback over UCF, winning 36-35. UCF appeared to be sailing towards their first conference victory before Baylor stormed back. The Cowboys take on UCF later in the season.
Oklahoma vs. Iowa State: Oklahoma took care of business, taking down the Cyclones 50-20. At one point in time, the Sooners led just 21-20. This would've been a good sign for the Cowboys, as they lost to Iowa State a week ago. However, the Sooners are clearly the better team.
TCU vs. West Virginia: To go up 2-0 in conference play, West Virginia took down TCU 24-21 in a tight contest. The Horned Frogs were shut out in the second half.
