Heading into Week 6, the Oklahoma State Cowboys were not in a good spot. A big loss to South Alabama followed by a loss to Iowa State did not favor the Cowboys by any means, then they had to take on Kansas State.

Behind a strong defensive performance, which snagged momentum on the beginning drive of the game, Oklahoma State was able to come up with a 29-21 upset over Kansas State in Stillwater in the Friday night matchup.

With Lyrik Rawls out at the safety position, someone would have to step up defensively. Redshirt freshman Cameron Epps did just that. With five total tackles, Epps is up to 19 tackles on the season, but most importantly, he had two incredibly timely interceptions.

The Cowboys started the game off with a three-and-out, being the first team this season to stop Kansas State on its opening drive. On the following defensive drive, Epps got his first interception to steal every bit of momentum from the Wildcats.

As the first half went on, the Cowboys would continue to have momentum, but as the half was winding down, Epps intercepted the Wildcats and took it to the end zone to give the Cowboys a 20-7 lead at halftime.

Epps' two big plays put the Cowboys in the driver's seat to end this game, as the defense continued to have an incredible game, consistently shutting down the Wildcats' offense and allowing them to get no momentum. This game awarded Epps the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award.

Now, as the season goes on, the Cowboys should feel confident in their defense to continue providing upsets. With a matchup against Kansas upcoming, followed by an away game at West Virginia, Epps and the Oklahoma State defense have the chance to go make a couple extra statements in Big 12 play.

If the Cowboys' offense is able to provide help to the defense, as both sides of the ball continue to search for their ceiling on the season, the Cowboys could be a scary team to face for the rest of their schedule.
