Cowboys LB Justin Wright Out For Season, Shares Social Media Message
The Oklahoma State Cowboys lost sophomore safety Lyrik Rawls to a likely season-ending leg surgery. This was a tough blow to the Cowboys' defense, and they'll also be without Justin Wright, who has been dealing with an injury suffered against Central Arkansas, which has required surgery and he'll now miss the entirety of the season.
Wright played just two games, as he returned against Iowa State, making two total tackles in that matchup.
On social media, the linebacker announced that he will be medically redshirting and will return for next season. His message reads:
"Goodluck to my boys tonight, and for the rest of the season. Surgery went great, I’ll be medical redshirting and I can’t wait to be back at it for next season and show y’all what I got in store! GO POKES"
Again, Rawls underwent surgery this week, now Wright shares his. On top of this, ahead of the Kansas State game, De'Zhaun Stribling was ruled out before Ashton Slaughter reported that he broke his left wrist.
The news cycle for the last 24 hours hasn't been in favor of the Cowboys, as their less-than-desirable 2-2 start to the season becomes even more threatening as they take on the Kansas State Wildcats, who pose a great conference challenge.
It's unfortunate that Wright was unable to get healthy from an injury suffered early in the season, but, according to his social media post, Wright is in good spirits and is ready to make noise next season.
With another season as Bryan Nardo being the defensive coordinator, the 3-3-5 scheme being in place and Wright being around the program another year, the defense could be in a good spot next season, especially as the young players continue to improve and get better.
In Wright's starting middle linebacker position has been Nick Martin. The Tulsa transfer will have the potential to make a big impact alongside Martin next season.
