Fifth Oklahoma State Starting Offensive Lineman to Return Next Season
Oklahoma State’s offensive line is set for 2024.
On Monday, OSU starting lineman Jason Brooks Jr. announced that he would be back for the 2024 season. Thanks to an NIL campaign to secure the offensive line’s commitment to OSU, the entire starting offensive line is staying put.
“Hey Cowboy fans, it’s your offensive guard here, Jason Brooks Jr., and I’m excited to announce I’ll be returning for a special 2024 season,” Brooks said in the announcement video. “I want to give a shoutout to OL600 and Pokes With a Purpose for making it possible to be a Cowboy for life. NIL matters, and I hope you keep supporting OL600. Go Pokes.”
Brooks joins the other four starting linemen who have already announced their intentions to stay with the Cowboys into next season. It began with Joe Michalski’s announcement.
OSU’s starting center was followed by Cole Birmingham, Dalton Cooper and Jake Springfield. While last season’s transfer portal was a whirlwind for OSU, this season’s focus on NIL and securing returns has already paid dividends for Mike Gundy and company.
Brooks’ 2023 season was one he would like to get behind him as injury ruined a productive season from the guard. He played in eight games this season but has not touched the field since exiting the Cowboys’ game against Oklahoma on crutches.
Before that, Brooks had played in 11 games in 2022, starting four matchups. Entering his fifth collegiate season next year, Brooks will look to be a part of something special.
As noted by many, the continuity along the offensive line bodes well for consensus All-American running back Ollie Gordon. The nation’s leading rusher consistently thanked his offensive line for the work they put in throughout the season as he had a historic season.
If the offensive line can stay healthy in 2024, it could be OSU’s biggest strength in a new-look Big 12.
