Mike Gundy Names Starting Quarterback For Kansas State Matchup on Friday

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have a starting quarterback for their second conference game of the season.

Coming off a bye week, it wasn't understood who would be under center for the Oklahoma State Cowboys this weekend. After the loss at Iowa State, Mike Gundy didn't confirm if Alan Bowman did enough to keep his job.

This led to speculation of him potentially switching the starting quarterback once again after having rotating three quarterbacks in a game for the first three games of the season.

The Cowboys' matchup against Kansas State could be huge. Both teams are coming off a bye week, and the Wildcats have looked much better than the Cowboys this far into the season.

During his weekly presser, Gundy was asked about whether or not Bowman would be the guy under center again this week.

"We're working through that this week in practice," Gundy responded.

Later in the day, however, Gundy said on his radio show that Bowman would, in fact, be the starter against Kansas State.

“He played good enough to get the start, and we’ll watch from there," Gundy said on his show.

Bowman completed 23 of his 48 passes against Iowa State, tallying 278 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions, though one was during a final attempt to win the game with little time left in the game.

He'll get an opportunity to show his value as a veteran under center in the Cowboys Week 6 matchup. Oklahoma State is going to continue having a balanced approach, running the ball, leading to play-action passes.

It'll be incredibly important for playmakers to get the ball. If Ollie Gordon gets 15 or more touches and Brennan Presley has his first huge game of the season, the Cowboys could easily play their way into the game. Bowman distributing the ball will be important as the offense doesn't work without a clean game from him.

This week will be super telling for Bowman and this iteration of the Cowboys offense.
