Oklahoma State Climbs to No. 15 in College Football Playoff Rankings

The Oklahoma State Cowboys got a rankings bump after taking down Oklahoma in the final Bedlam contest.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have surged here late in the season. It started after a bye week. They started 2-2 on the season, and the well-timed bye week helped them turn things around.

Since then, they've upset plenty of teams, including Oklahoma in their most recent win, Kansas, Kansas State and West Virginia. Four of those teams have spent time ranked this season, and West Virginia was close at one point.

While the South Alabama loss was a big blow for the Cowboys, their wins have had much more quality to them, and they truly look like an incredible team.

As crazy at is it, the Cowboys are the No. 15 in the updated College Football Playoff rankings.

After taking down the Sooners 27-24 in the final Bedlam matchup this past weekend, the Cowboys jumped them in the rankings. Before the matchup, the Sooners were the No. 9 team in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Cowboys were No. 22.

This week, the Cowboys were ranked in the AP Poll for the first time, too. They came in at No. 15 in the most recent AP Top 25.

Also of note after the win over the Sooners, the Cowboys are now alongside Texas as frontrunners to make the Big 12 Championship game. They both only have one conference loss with schedules that should see them winning out.

Other Big 12 teams in the rankings are Kansas State at No. 25, Oklahoma at No. 17, Kansas at No. 16 and Texas at No. 7.

When the season started, it seemed as if this season would be a two-man race between Oklahoma at Texas. While the Longhorns remain at the top of the conference, it appears as if there could be some parity as Oklahoma and Texas are on their way to the SEC.

Something that is fun to watch is where the Cowboys finish this season. Finishing in the top 12 would be incredible, considering the playoffs are expanding to a 12-team format next year.
