Oklahoma State Predicted to Make 2024 College Football Playoffs
The college football season has officially come to a close. The Michigan Wolverines took down the Washington Huskies handily in the National Championship to cap off the College Football Playoffs.
Big 12 champion Texas -- who defeated Oklahoma State in the title game -- got into the playoffs before losing a tightly-contested battle to Washington. A year ago, TCU, despite losing the Big 12 title game, made the College Football Playoffs.
Next season, the playoffs are expanding their field, too. A new 12-team playoff format is being introduced, allowing more teams to end up in the playoffs. Power Five conference champions will each get a bid into the playoffs, leaving Oklahoma State a great path to playing playoff football next season.
With the format expanding and eyes set towards the 2024 college football season, Barrett Sallee of CBS Sports made his early predictions for who will be playing in the playoffs next season.
Sallee predicts the Cowboys to make the playoffs with the No. 4 seed, making the playoffs as Big 12 Champions.
"OK, now this one might seem like it's coming out of left field. It's not. The top four teams in the new system must be conference champions, and the Cowboys will ride running back Ollie Gordon II to the Big 12 title," Sallee wrote. "Could there be speed bumps along the way? Sure. In fact, there probably will be plenty. However, the Cowboys will be the fourth-best conference champion ahead of the rest of the Group of Five champs."
Picking the Cowboys to win the Big 12 isn't a reach whatsoever. They made the title game this past season before being defeated by a Texas team that made the playoffs. Now, Texas and Oklahoma are headed to the SEC and the conference is adding former Pac-12 teams.
Returning the entire offense and key pieces on defense, Oklahoma State is gearing up for what could be a special 2024 season.
