Ollie Gordon's Odds for Heisman and More Continue to Grow
As Ollie Gordon’s hot streak continues, his case for national awards grows.
In Oklahoma State’s big win against Cincinnati, Gordon rushed for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Although he had a slight drop in his numbers from the week before, Gordon still gained a number of national awards again.
For the third week in a row, Gordon won the Doak Walker National Player of the Week. In those three weeks, Gordon has accounted for at least 200 scrimmage yards.
Along with that, Gordon won the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for a third straight time. In that span, Gordon has scored eight touchdowns and averaged 8.7 yards per carry.

The Cowboys’ star has run for 553 yards in the past two games alone. Only four teams in the FBS have run for more yards in that span, and going by yards per carry, Gordon has those teams beaten by a long shot.
With so many impressive performances, Gordon’s odds for college football’s most prestigious award have started to materialize. Currently, Gordon sits just outside the top 10 at +6000 to win the Heisman trophy, but another gaudy performance and a win against Oklahoma on Saturday could vault him into serious contention.
With the recent play of the Cowboys’ offensive line, Gordon’s tear may not have an end in sight. The most remarkable part of Gordon’s recent stretch has been his elevated play in the fourth quarter.
“Toward the end of games, we get even stronger together, and teams get really tired,” Gordon said. “So, I feel like if we just keep working together like that, teams won’t be able to hang with this toward the end of the game.”
Gordon has shown that with some exclamation points at the end of OSU’s games against West Virginia and Cincinnati as he went for some massive gains and touchdowns in the closing minutes in each matchup. If Gordon can add to this stretch against OU and help OSU get closer to a Big 12 title, he might find himself in New York when December comes around.
