What Did Mike Gundy Have to Say About Kansas?

Mike Gundy has told his coaches and players to not linger in last week’s win over Kansas State.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off a much-needed win against Kansas State. That is over now Mike Gundy said on Monday. The focus should turn to Saturday when the Cowboys take on the Kansas Jayhawks.

“The message has got to be we have to do this again,” Gundy said. “This team that is coming in and playing is every bit as good as the team we just played. They (coaches) have to work harder and be more accountable to the team than ever. Then we have to ask the team to do the same.”

Gundy is right, the Jayhawks are just as good as any team the Cowboys have faced this season. Kansas (5-1) comes in ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll.

Pounding the rock is what the Jayhawks like to do on offense. Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw Jr. have Kansas ranked sixth in the country in rushing offense this season.

“They’ve got a good package. They are smart and know what they are doing,” Gundy said. “Those backs have gained confidence. They like running the ball because they are running for three to four yards past the line of scrimmage and not getting touched.”

Oklahoma State (3-2) has not been good at stopping the run this year. OSU comes in ranked 86th in the country in rushing defense, giving up 154 rushing yards per game.

Another concept that Kansas likes to do is motion players before the snap. The Jayhawks will motion on every snap in the game whether it's one guy or three guys. Gundy said he isn’t too worried about the defense, for they have seen that type of concept in the previous two games.

“The good news is we have worked on that the last three weeks,” Gundy said. “The challenge this week is all of that and trying to match up the triple option after they reset."

Kickoff on Saturday against the Jayhawks is at 2:30 p.m. inside Boone Pickens Stadium.
