Oklahoma State Comes in at No. 18 in Latest CFP Ranking
Oklahoma State moved up two spots to No. 18 in Tuesday's College Football Playoff rankings.
OSU comes in with a top-20 ranking ahead of its Big 12 Championship battle with Texas on Saturday. OSU survived in double overtime against BYU to punch its ticket to Arlington.
Star running back Ollie Gordon ran for five touchdowns in the Cowboys' 18-point comeback win against the Cougars. In addition to his heroics saving the Cowboys' conference title chances, Gordon was named a finalist for the Doak Walker Award.
OSU comes in as one of four Big 12 teams ranked in the Playoff committee's top 25. OSU joins Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas State.
Texas is the highest-ranked team at 11-1, coming in at No. 7. With that ranking, Texas will also be the highest-ranked opponent OSU has faced this season.
In Arlington, OSU will likely need to win to make it to a New Year's Six bowl. While OSU is currently a hefty underdog, Gordon and company could make life difficult for Texas.
Texas, meanwhile, will be looking to make its bid for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Although this game means a lot to OSU, it could be a program-defining result for Texas.
A win for OSU would likely mean a spot in the top 15 heading into bowl season and, of course, its first Big 12 title since 2011.
